The impact of test leadership training on efficient testing
At a large Belgian bank-insurer, the mobile app plays a central role in their digital strategy. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of experts is responsible for testing and ensuring the quality of this app. Sven, a test coach at this organization, is one of the driving forces behind this project. In this article, he shares his role, his experiences with the test leadership training, and the impact this training has had on both his work and the organization.
Sven on his role and the value of test leadership
“Within the Test Competence Center, I support various teams in testing the app,” Sven explains. “This ranges from test automation and test management to test design.” With nearly ten years of experience in IT, much of it in test leadership, Sven is constantly looking for ways to improve his work methods and keep his knowledge up to date. This drive recently led him to the test leadership training organized by The Bright Academy.
The power of practical training
Sven began the training with high expectations, primarily to see if his approach aligned with best practices in the testing world. What appealed to him the most was the practical approach taken by Joke, the instructor. “Joke seamlessly connected theory and practice by allowing us to work on cases we brought in ourselves. This made them relevant to our daily challenges,” Sven says enthusiastically.
One of the most insightful moments for him was working together on a test approach for a challenging case. “That process gave me new insights into how I can approach complex problems in a structured and creative way.” Additionally, the training reinforced his confidence in his role. “I now feel more assured about the choices we make and the direction we’re heading.”
Impact on work methods and the organization
The training turned out to be more than just a confirmation of what was already going well. It also inspired Sven to work more deliberately on improving QA strategies. “We now make a clear distinction between a QA strategy and a test approach, which helps us work more efficiently,” he concludes.
